Founded in the 16th century and preserved almost intact, Villa de Leyva is one of Colombia’s most important colonial towns. Located in the highlands of Boyacá, the region was once covered by an ancient sea—explaining the abundance of fossils that coexist today with monasteries, cobblestone streets, and artisan traditions.

The journey departs Bogotá heading north through the Andean plateau. As the city fades, the landscape opens into rolling hills and highland valleys.
This stop serves as a food stop to have breakfast or a snack, as well as a scenic pause to take photos of the reservoir and take a short walk to stretch your legs.
