El Dorado sits on the western edge of the city, and the drive into Bogotá follows the Calle 26 corridor — a direct, well-maintained artery that connects the airport to most of the city's main hotel and business districts. The actual time depends on traffic, time of day, and your specific destination.
During weekday peak hours — 7–9 AM and 5–7 PM — the same route can take considerably longer, Late-night and early-morning arrivals (after 9 PM and before 6 AM) are generally the smoothest window.

Before You Book
Getting From El Dorado Into Bogotá
El Dorado sits inside the city on Calle 26, about 14 km and 45 minutes from the centre. Here is what each way in costs.
Is there a TransMilenio or bus from El Dorado airport?
Yes. The feeder route 16-14 Aeropuerto runs from Portal El Dorado, and the K86 dual-articulated service connects from Museo Nacional and several Calle 26 stations, so you can reach the airport from anywhere on the trunk network.
The fare is a flat $3.550 COP, the same all day including Sundays and holidays. It is by far the cheapest way in. You need a Tullave card to board, and it is awkward with large suitcases at rush hour.
How much is a taxi from El Dorado airport?
Unlike Medellín, Bogotá airport taxis are metered, not a flat rate, so the final figure depends on where you are going and how the traffic runs. Under Decreto 042 de 2026, in force since 12 February 2026, the official rates are:
- Banderazo — $4.500 COP
- Carrera mínima — $8.000 COP
- Per 100 metres — $159 COP
- Airport surcharge — $8.000 COP, or $8.600 for taxis on the excelencia operacional tariff
Use the official rank outside arrivals instead of an approach in the terminal, and check the meter is running.
How long does it take to get from the airport into Bogotá?
About 45 minutes and 14 kilometres to the centre, along Calle 26. Calle 26 is the variable — at peak hours it can stretch well past that, which is the main reason arrivals with a fixed pickup time end up ahead.
Will the altitude affect me when I land?
Possibly. Bogotá sits at about 2,640 metres, and you step off the plane straight into it with no gradual climb. Mild breathlessness on stairs, a headache or broken sleep on the first night are all common and normally pass within a day or two. Drink more water than usual, go easy on alcohol the first evening, and do not plan anything strenuous for day one.
What happens if my flight is delayed?

Where does the driver meet me at El Dorado?
Inside the terminal at arrivals, with a "Safe Transfers" sign, whichever terminal you land in. They help with the luggage and take you door to door — the centre, Chapinero, Zona T, Usaquén, Parque 93 or anywhere else in the city.
Can I get an Uber at El Dorado airport?
Yes — Uber, DiDi, Cabify and InDrive all serve El Dorado. The catch is where they collect you. Ride-hailing drivers are generally steered away from the arrivals curb and toward a car park, so a pickup often means a walk with your luggage instead of a car at the door. Which terminal will I land in, and how do I get between them?
El Dorado has two, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, in separate buildings. A free shuttle connects them every day from 4:00 a.m. to midnight. If you have a domestic connection after an international arrival, plan for the move between terminals instead of assuming a short walk.
So which way in should you take?
- TransMilenio — cheapest by a wide margin at $3.550 COP, but you need a Tullave card and it is hard work with suitcases at rush hour.
- Authorised taxi — metered, so the fare moves with the traffic. Fine in daylight if you use the official rank outside arrivals and check the meter is running.
- Ride-hailing app — usually cheaper than a taxi, but the pickup is a walk away and the legal position is unsettled.
- Private transfer — the price is fixed and known before you land, the driver meets you inside arrivals with a "Safe Transfers" sign, and a delayed flight moves the pickup instead of costing you the ride.
