Medellín airport transfer at a glance

How it works. Book online in about a minute. We track your flight from José María Córdova’s live board. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall — international arrivals if you flew in from abroad, domestic arrivals if you flew in from Bogotá or the coast — holding a "Safe Transfers" sign, helps with your luggage, and drives you down through the Túnel de Oriente to your address, 45 to 60 minutes away. If fog holds your flight or the tunnel is closed for maintenance that night, the pickup moves with it at no extra cost.

What it costs. From $49 USD, fixed in USD or EUR before you land. No meter, no surge, no toll surprises.

How to book. Choose your pickup and drop-off, enter your flight number and address, pay securely, and you are confirmed. Our bilingual team is on WhatsApp 24/7.

If you see a lower price elsewhere, check three things

  1. Is it a private car, or a shared shuttle that waits for other passengers?
  2. Does the driver meet you inside the arrivals hall, or somewhere in a parking lot outside the terminal?
  3. Is the price fixed in writing before you land?

All three are included here.

Your Journey. Simplified.

Wherever you're headed - the airport, your hotel, meetings, or regional destinations - Safe Transfers ensures a smooth and coordinated experience.
Transportation in Medellín is not limited to the city itself. Most routes involve coordination between the urban area and eastern Antioquia, where the airport, business hubs, and event venues are located.

Landing at José María Córdova? Our Medellín Airport Guide covers the terminal, the 24-hour bus, the official taxi fares, lounges, parking and the Túnel de Oriente.

How Transportation Works in Medellín

Getting From Medellín Airport Into the City

José María Córdova (MDE) is in Rionegro, not in Medellín. Here are your three real options and what each one actually costs.

Is there a bus from Medellín airport to the city?

Yes. Combuses runs a direct service through the Túnel de Oriente with no stops, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In Medellín it uses Estación Exposiciones, Sede San Diego and Sede Nutibara, and you can pay with a Cívica card.

The fare rose to $20.000 COP on 1 January 2026, roughly USD 7. It is comfortably the cheapest way in, and it makes sense if you are travelling light, landing in daylight, and staying near one of those three stops.

How much is a taxi from Medellín airport?

The airport run is a regulated flat rate, not a meter fare. Under the tariff in force since 2 February 2026 the Alcaldía de Medellín sets it at:

  • Standard taxi — $132.000 COP
  • Electric taxi — $134.100 COP
  • Luxury taxi — $143.100 COP

You join the official rank outside Arrivals. There is no booking and no flight tracking, so if your flight lands late you queue with everyone else on that flight.

How long does it take to get from the airport to Medellín?

Between 45 and 60 minutes depending on traffic, whichever way you travel. The road drops roughly a kilometre in altitude from Rionegro down into the Aburrá Valley, which is why the terminal feels noticeably cooler than the city.

Bus, taxi or private transfer — which should I take?

  • Bus if you are on a budget, travelling light, and staying near Exposiciones, San Diego or Nutibara.
  • Taxi if you want to leave immediately and do not mind queueing, at a fixed official rate.
  • Private transfer if you are landing late, travelling with family or real luggage, do not speak Spanish, or want a named driver who has tracked your flight and is waiting inside Arrivals with your name.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

We track your flight and move your pickup with it, at no extra cost. That is the practical difference between booking a transfer and finding a ride once you have landed — nobody is waiting on a meter, and nobody leaves without you.

Where does the driver meet me?

Inside the terminal at Arrivals, with a "Safe Transfers" sign, and they help with the luggage. Drop-off is door to door anywhere in the valley — El Poblado, Laureles, Envigado, Sabaneta or the city centre.

Bus fare: Combuses tariff effective 1 January 2026. Taxi fares: official tariff set by the Alcaldía de Medellín, effective 2 February 2026. Third-party fares change — check before you travel.

Medellín operates as part of the Aburrá Valley, but its main airport - José María Córdova - is located in Rionegro, about 45-60 minutes away depending on traffic.
This means most travelers are already moving between municipalities, not just within Medellín. In addition, areas like Llanogrande and eastern Antioquia host business parks, residential compounds, and private venues, making regional mobility a constant.
