Medellín Tejo Tour with Beer (Private)

Tejo is Colombia’s national sport and almost no visitor plays it. You throw a weighted steel disc down a clay lane at a folded packet of gunpowder, and when you hit it the packet goes off with a crack that carries across the room. This is three hours at a working court in a Medellín neighbourhood, with your own reserved lane, a guide who teaches the technique, and four beers each because the beer is part of the tradition.

How the day works

• Your private driver collects you from your hotel or apartment in Medellín and takes you straight to the tejo court, about half an hour.
• Your guide covers the basics on the way so you are ready to throw when you arrive.
• At the court your guide runs through the history, the scoring and the throwing technique, then hands you your first disc.
• You play for around two hours on a lane reserved for your group alone. Four beers per person come with the session.
• Your driver takes you back to wherever you want to be dropped in the city.

Is it dangerous?

No. The gunpowder packets are small and the bang is noise, not force. Courts have run this way for generations and your guide sets the rules before anyone throws.

Do I have to drink?

No. The four beers come with the session but nobody pushes them on you, and soft drinks are available at the court.

No. The activity includes alcohol, so the minimum age is 18.

Do I need to be strong to throw?
