Parque del Café is not a museum and not a farm. It is a full-scale theme park in Montenegro, Quindío, built around the history and the human story of the industry that made this part of the Andes what it is — over twenty mechanical attractions, a coffee museum that runs from the colonial introduction of the crop through to the specialty movement, live cultural shows with trained casts performing the region’s music and dance, a Quimbaya cemetery replica, a bahareque farmhouse, and Willys jeeps.

Nine hours door to door, five of them inside the park, and the entry ticket is already in the price. You walk straight in.

How the day works

• Pickup and the drive out (about 2 hours). Travel time depends on where you are staying. Armenia is the closest of the coffee region cities; Pereira, Salento, Filandia and Manizales are further.
• Five hours inside the park. Your ticket is covered. Roller coasters, cable cars, water rides, karts, the coffee museum, the cultural shows and the cultural sections, at whatever order and pace suits you.
• Drive back (about 2 hours). Your guide is there for the questions the museum raised.

Good to know

• You are on your feet for most of five hours. Comfortable cotton clothing, walking shoes, and a cap.
• The coffee region averages around 18°C with a very humid climate and light rain almost daily. Sunscreen even on a cloudy day, plus a light rain jacket.
• Your ticket is already paid. Nothing to buy at the gate.
• Ride restrictions are the park’s. Unlimited use applies where you meet the physical and health conditions for each attraction. Check the official Parque del Café site before booking if that matters for your group.
• Horse riding inside the park is not in the ticket. Bring a little cash if you want it.
• Pickup time depends on your hotel. The drive can run to two hours, so confirm your exact time when you book.
