The three things that go wrong
1
Waze sends you the wrong way.
The park operators state this outright: the app diverts drivers off the correct route. Google Maps works. This is not a minor inconvenience on a mountain road with no signal and few places to turn around.
2
The last four kilometres are unpaved.
After the turnoff from the Bogotá–Choachí highway there is a rough track to the entrance, and there are three forks where you keep left. Reviews consistently mention that a low car struggles here. Our vehicles and drivers handle this route regularly.
3
Entry closes early.
Hikers are admitted from 8:00 a.m. until roughly 3:00 p.m., because the full walk takes about three hours and the cloud forest darkens fast in the afternoon. Leaving Bogotá at ten o'clock means arriving to be turned away.
A private transfer to La Chorrera from Bogotá removes all three. Your driver knows the turnoff, drives the track, and waits at the entrance for as long as the walk takes.
What to bring
This is a protected forest reserve managed by the CAR, not an open park, and the rules are enforced. Knowing them in advance is the difference between a good day and a wasted drive.
Proper footwear. Hiking boots or trainers with real grip. The trail is slippery after rain.
A rain layer. This is cloud forest. It rains without warning at any time of year.
Water, at least a litre per person, and a snack.
Cash. For admission, parking and the roadside restaurants at the entrance, several of which waive parking if you eat with them.
Not jeans. Local operators say this repeatedly — rigid fabric is miserable on a wet climb.
Prefer a guide over a driver?

This page is about transport: we take you there, wait, and bring you back. You handle the park and the trail yourself.
If you would rather have the whole day organised, our sister brand Cielo Travel runs exactly that. See the private La Chorrera hike to Colombia's tallest waterfall. Same ownership, same vetted drivers, different product.
Coming from El Dorado Airport
We also collect directly from El Dorado, though this is a demanding day to attempt on arrival. The route crosses a 3,300-metre páramo and the hike sits well above 2,500 metres. Travelers landing from sea level should give themselves a day in Bogotá first.
Our Bogotá El Dorado airport transfer page covers arrival timing and meet-and-greet.
Combining it with the rest of the day
Because the vehicle waits instead of leaving, La Chorrera pairs naturally with:
Choachí town
a quiet Andean village fifteen minutes further on, good for a late lunch.
The Choachí hot springs
Santa Mónica and Los Volcanes. After three hours of climbing, this is the single most popular add-on and the reason many travelers book the full-day version.
Monserrate from behind
the same mountain range, approached from the eastern side. A long option for strong walkers.
Stops are quoted in advance, not added at the end.

Van
Stay together. One vehicle, one driver, one fixed price.

Large Van
Room to breathe, even with luggage and a full group.

Minibus
Bulit for corporate teams and family delegations.

Medium Bus
Move a delegation, a wedding party, or an entire team - in one piece.

Large Bus
Move a delegation, a wedding party, or an entire team - in one piece.

Executive Sedan
Arrive the way you do business. Mercedes-Benz C200

4×4 SUV
Where institutional presence meets every road. Toyota/Ford/Prado/TXL

Executive SUV
Space, privacy, and stature in one vehicle. Chevrolet Tahoe
For a twelve-hour drive, vehicle choice matters more than it does on a short airport run. Legroom, working air conditioning across a 25-degree temperature swing, and genuine luggage space are not luxuries on this route.
Certified child seats are available as an add-on, and on a route this long we strongly recommend booking them instead of improvising.
What travelers say
“Smooth experience. They waited nearly 2 hours and made sure I got inside safely after drop-off.”
“Booked the day before, confirmed instantly. On time, clean SUV, A/C all the way. Much easier than figuring out the bus.”
